Hyundai Creta Gets A 3-Star GNCAP Safety Rating, Same As Seltos
A 3-star rating means a decent safety rating while it must be noted that the top-spec Creta has pre-tensioner rear-middle belt and 6 airbags plus more safety features.
New Delhi: The new Creta has been tested by Global NCAP and it has received a 3-star rating. The Creta being used for testing is in the basic spec with two airbags. Global NCAP currently tests frontal crash protection for occupants and the overall star rating for the Creta and also the i20 is termed reasonable by Global NCAP.
A 3-star rating means a decent safety rating while it must be noted that the top-spec Creta has pre-tensioner rear-middle belt and 6 airbags plus more safety features. The base model Creta was used for the test. The rating is for adult and child occupant protection while the report shows good/adequate protection for the upper body of both the occupants while the lower half had weaker protection being termed marginal.
In-fact the drivers head/occupant head has good protection overall while lack of ISOFIX also meant a 3-star child occupant safety. The i20 from Hyundai was also tested with 2 frontal airbags and ABS.
The rating of the Creta is similar to the Seltos which also got a 3-star safety rating. Currently, the top-end model gets six airbags while from the SX Executive variant you get ISOFIX etc.
Global NCAP states that safety systems such as ESC and side body and head protection airbags should come as a basic requirement in India and while in the future six airbags could also be standard- hence increasing the safety of cars that we buy.
The mandate for 6 airbags to be standard states the M1 category cars made from October 1 would be standard with six airbags. This will raise the price of the cars for those which do not offer 6 airbags at all and also would require changes. The Creta/ i20 do offer 6 airbags with their top-end trim levels though.
