In the Audi India range, their flagship offering is the A8 and the new A8 is packed with loads of technology plus features. It is natural considering it is its most advanced car and also its most luxurious. Prices start at Rs 1.29 cr but the top-end model is now priced at Rs 1.57 cr. We spent some time with the car for a detailed first look so let us get in. With these new changes, the A8 L gets a strong push to provide stiff competition to its rivals.

What has changed on the outside?

A big new grille and loads of chrome which will make it stand out just about anywhere and it does add a lot of presence to the A8. The A8 sold in India is the long wheelbase version and the length further makes it a regal car. The chrome detailing on the grille plus the new digital Matrix LED headlamps are the biggest changes but elsewhere, there are new turbine style 19 inch alloy wheels as well. There are loads of choices in terms of the colours and here, the new A8 L comes with 8 of them– Terra Grey, District Green, Firmament Blue, Floret Silver, Glacier White, Manhattan Grey, Vesuvius Grey, and Mythos Black while overall you can further customize with nearly 55 exterior colours.

What about on the inside?

Open the long rear door and it is all about the back seat as it is huge in space plus we think it is amongst the roomiest luxury limousines out there. We would not use the terms quality here as with this price, you expect the highest standard and that's what you get but in traditional Audi fashion. It is elegant but not too flashy. The rear seat is the place to be with a proper executive style rear seat complete with a recliner, individual seats with massage and ventilation, heated foot massager with 2 massage programs and 3 intensities, rear seat entertainment screens and a rear seat remote.

Then you get 'Valcona leather seat upholstery', front/rear massage seats, 4 zone air conditioning with Air Ionizer and Aromatization, 23 speaker Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound, a heads-up display and a lot more. You can really relax like on a first class airline seat here. As mentioned before in terms of personalization, the new A8 L comes with 8 interior colors, 7 wooden inlays and more personalization possibilities too.

How powerful is this mild-hybrid engine?

It makes 340 hp and 500 Nm torque via a 3.0l V6 mild hybrid powertrain. More than the performance, what is interesting is the suspension plus the fact that it has a Qauttro all-wheel drive system of course. Here the new A8 L gets predictive air suspension where the car detects road imperfection in advance using a front camera and adjusts the suspension accordingly. There is also a curve tilt function when activated via the Comfort Plus mode for a better controlled ride. Further, when opening the doors, the car raises itself by 50mm too.
