Features like auto high beam are useful while in recent cars, ADAS has been tuned for our conditions which means they are not overly sensitive to use in India

ADAS started out as a feature available in only a few number of cars while now it has started to trickle onto mass market offerings too. Case in point is the new Honda Amaze which is the most affordable car available in India with ADAS. The variant with ADAS in the Amaze costs 9.7 lakh which comes with the ADAS feature.

Other ADAS Options

Does ADAS Make Sense For Indian Roads?

However, the question is whether this feature makes sense for India? Well, features like auto high beam are useful while in recent cars, ADAS has been tuned for our conditions which means they are not overly sensitive. Also looking at the erratic driving conditions sometimes, features like emergency brakes also come in handy. However, it also depends on the sensitivity since the system may detect something and apply brakes which will take the driver by surprise. That said, the tuning of these features have started to take account of the road conditions here which means they are suited. Some features like adaptive cruise or lane keep assist are for highway use.

Final Thoughts On ADAS

We think ADAS is a good safety feature which increases the safety and the fact that it is making into cars below the Rs 10 lakh mark is a sign of democratisation of features.
