SC accepts finding of ASI saying there was a non Islamic structure under the mosque
The Supreme Court in its judgment accepted the reports of Archaeological Survey of India.
ASI in its report had established there was a non Islamic structure under the mosque.
ASI has not said whether a temple was destroyed to make the mosque although the mosque was built on a temple and used its ruins.
The judgment comes almost a decade after the Allahabad High Court had partitioned the disputed site in the ratio of 2:1 between Hindu and Muslim litigants. Both sides had then moved the top court against the judgment.
