Manipur CM N Biren Singh Resigns Amid Ongoing Ethnic Unrest

N Biren Singh has resigned as the Chief Minister of Manipur, nearly two years after ethnic violence erupted in the state. The BJP leader formally submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Sunday. His departure comes amid prolonged tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which have led to persistent unrest in the region. Despite efforts to restore stability, the situation remained volatile, prompting speculation about a leadership change. Singh’s resignation is seen as part of the BJP’s strategy to address political and governance challenges ahead of future elections. With his exit, the focus now shifts to the selection of a new Chief Minister who can navigate the complex socio-political landscape of Manipur. Meanwhile, opposition parties have criticized the ruling party’s handling of the crisis, urging stronger measures to restore peace in the state.
