In the first scene of The Adam Project, a younger version of Ryan Reynolds' character is beaten up for speaking his mind. Because this is a running gag in the film, you can justifiably criticize it for a million other things but not for its lack of self-awareness. Reynolds, as we all know, has decided to play versions of the same fast-talking jerk in every film he's been in since Deadpool, frequently inspiring viewers to fantasize about reaching into the screen, grabbing him by the scruff of the neck, and telling him to just quiet up.
