Want To Watch Something On YouTube But Don't Know What? 'Play Something' Feature Might Help
This feature is currently available in the latest beta version of the Android YouTube app and appears as a floating action button.
Has it ever been with you that you are doing something or eating and you want to watch YouTube while you eat but, you don't know what to watch? This is an actual problem for many people and the video streaming giant has heard your calls. YouTube, Google's video streaming service, is reportedly experimenting with a new "Play Something" feature in its mobile app that automatically suggests and plays videos.
As reported by 9To5Google, this feature is currently available in the latest beta version of the YouTube app for Android and appears as a floating action button. The report mentions that the "Play Something" button replaces the minimized video player when the app is launched. By tapping the button, users can start watching a video recommended by YouTube based on their viewing preferences.

The video player opens in portrait mode, displaying options for Like, Dislike, Comment, and Share on the right side of the screen. While the interface resembles that of YouTube Shorts, the feature is designed to play both Shorts and standard YouTube videos in portrait view. If there is an active minimised video player, the Play Something floating button is inaccessible.
YouTube 'Restyle'
YouTube recently announced it is experimenting with a new AI-powered feature that enables creators to "restyle" licensed audio tracks for use in YouTube Shorts. This trial feature, called "restyle," is part of YouTube's Dream Track initiative and is currently limited to a select group of creators with access to a curated set of songs.
Participants in the test can select an eligible track and specify how they want it modified. The AI then generates a customized 30-second version suited for Shorts. For instance, creators can request a genre transformation by prompting the AI to "restyle this track." The tool adapts the music while preserving the original vocals and lyrics, offering a fresh take on the audio.
