WhatsApp Makes Sharing Short Videos 'As Easy As Sending A Voice Message' In Latest Update

WhatsApp has started rolling out the new feature in batches and all users are expected to get it within the next few weeks.

Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows users to share personal videos directly within their chats. This move comes as an extension of its voice message functionality. In a recent blog post, WhatsApp expressed their its for the new feature, stating that video messages will enable real-time responses in a visual format, allowing users to convey their thoughts and emotions within 60 seconds. The company believes that this will add a fun and expressive element to communication, facilitating the sharing of special moments, birthday wishes, laughter at jokes, and the announcement of good news.

Using this new feature is as easy as sending a voice message, claims Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Users can switch to video mode with a simple tap and hold to record the video. For hands-free recording, a swipe-up option is available to lock the recording. When a video is opened in a chat, it will automatically play on mute, but a tap on the video will activate the sound. As always, WhatsApp ensures that video messages are protected with their end-to-end encryption, maintaining the highest level of privacy for users.

The rollout of this feature begins today, and users worldwide can expect to have access to it in the coming weeks. This update is just one in a series of enhancements WhatsApp has made to its messaging app in recent months. Among the recent additions, the platform now automatically silences calls from unknown numbers, and users can edit messages within 15 minutes of sending them. Additionally, WhatsApp is rumoured to be working on implementing usernames, offering more personalisation options for users.

With these ongoing updates and improvements, WhatsApp continues to strengthen its position as a leading messaging app, providing its user base with innovative and user friendly features that enhance the overall communication experience.
