Vodafone Idea Rolls Out eSIMs For Prepaid Users In Delhi: Compatible Devices & Steps To Activate

Not all smartphones support the eSIM functionality as of now so check if your device is a part of the list below or not.

Vodafone Idea has officially introduced eSIMs for prepaid users in New Delhi, joining other cities like Mumbai and Goa where this option is already available. An eSIM functions as a digital SIM card embedded within your device, eliminating the need for a physical card. Activation can be done directly from your phone's settings or through scanning a code, eliminating the necessity of visiting a store. This technology enables seamless switching between different network plans and the storage of multiple profiles simultaneously, which is particularly convenient for travellers.

Additionally, eSIMs are immune to loss or damage, unlike traditional physical SIM cards. They also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing plastic waste. In summary, eSIMs offer convenience, flexibility, and eco-friendliness compared to traditional SIM cards.

It's important to note that not all smartphones support eSIM functionality. Below is a list of smartphone models that are compatible with eSIMs:

  • Google: Pixel 3 and newer models
  • Apple iPhones: iPhone XR and newer models
  • Motorola: Motorola Razr, Motorola Next Gen Razr, Motorola Edge 40
  • Samsung: Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy S21, and others
  • Nokia: Nokia G60, Nokia X30
  • Vivo: Vivo X90 Pro

To activate Vi eSIM for existing customers, make sure your email ID is registered with Vi. If it's not, send 'Email Your Email ID' to 199. After a period of 48 hours, you can then proceed with the eSIM activation process.

How You Can Activate The eSIM

  • Send a message with 'eSIM your registered email ID' to 199 to begin the switch.
  • After getting a confirmation message, reply 'ESIMY' within 15 minutes to confirm your interest.
  • Consent may be required over a call.
  • After approval, you will get a QR Code on your registered email ID. Scan it using your phone's Settings.
  • Follow the activation steps for your device. The QR code will be valid for one device for 7 days.
  • Select the default line (Primary/Secondary) for this number and tap Done.
  • The eSIM will be activated within 30 minutes.
