Elon Musk May Be Delaying Twitter's Paid Verification For This Reason

Twitter's Blue subscription may not become available as an in-app purchase for Apple devices, in an attempt by Musk to do away with Apple's 30 per cent cut of App Store purchases.

Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk may have said that the company will launch the revamped blue tick verification soon, but the Blue subscription may not become available as an in-app purchase for Apple devices, in an attempt to do away with Apple's 30 per cent cut of App Store purchases, the media has reported.

When the new Blue was briefly available earlier this month, you could only purchase it through Twitter’s iOS app. While Musk is publicly tweeting his displeasure with Apple, it appears he wants to avoid having to pay Apple’s fees, says a report by The Verge quoting The Platformer.

According to The Platformer report, Twitter staffers have been informed that there will be some changes to the Twitter Blue subscription, including a one-cent price increase from $7.99 to $8 and requiring phone number verification.

Musk has recently claimed that tech giant Apple is threatening to remove Twitter from the Apple App Store, without giving a reason why. This comes in the back of Musk taking shots at the iPhone maker, stating that App Store fees equate to a “secret 30 per cent tax” on the internet. Musk also claimed that Apple was one of Twitter's biggest advertisers, which has "mostly stopped advertising" on the micro-blogging platform.

To recall, reports said last week that Twitter may roll out its revamped blue-tick verification badges on Friday (this week). Musk also detailed how different-coloured ticks will be now introduced to denote different types of accounts. After his hostile $44-billion takeover of Twitter, Musk sought to bring in several changes to the micro-blogging platform.

This includes the monetisation of Twitter's "verified" blue-tick badge, which has been brought under the Twitter Blue subscription plan, priced at $7.99 per month for those who wish to avail of it.
