Call Of Duty Series Skipping Annual Game Launch In 2023: Details

This will be the first time that game developer Activision will not launch an annual game in the series in almost 20 years.

New Delhi: The planned release of the Call of Duty game for 2023 has been postponed to 2024 and this will be the first time that game developer Activision will not launch an annual game in almost 20 years, the media has reported. The American game developer took the decision to delay the launch of the annual mainline release after a recent entry in the line "failed to meet expectations".

The company is pushing off the release after a recent entry in the series failed to meet expectations, leading some executives to believe that they’re introducing new versions too rapidly, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to discuss the deliberations, according to a report published by news agency Bloomberg.

Treyarch is leading the responsibility of the next major release in the long-running series. The California-based company was also leading the development of the Black Ops games over the years. Some reports suggest that Activision may also launch a new game later this year that could be a reboot of Modern Ware 2.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty, in partnership with Timi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent Games, has surpassed $1.5 billion in global lifetime player spending across the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store following its official launch in October 2019. According to data from Sensor Tower, revenue in 2021 represented the title's best full-year performance to date, with players spending up 45 per cent year-over-year. Sales were boosted by the launch of the shooter in China in December 2020, with the title picking up $104.5 million on that country's App Store alone last year.
