New Delhi: Swedish music streaming giant Spotify and messaging platform Discord are functioning after suffering a worldwide outage. More than 138,000 Spotify users had reported facing issues while using the music streaming app while more than 65,000 reported being affected by the issue with Discord, as per outage detecting site Downdetector.com. According to the outage tracking platform, a majority of Spotify users (93 per cent) faced issues while logging in while 5 per cent of users could not stream audio and another 2 per cent of Spotify users were hit by the issue while accessing Spotify web client.

Google Cloud problems led to the issue affecting Spotify and Discord users, according to media reports. Acknowledging the issue, the Swedish music streaming giant tweeted from Spotify Status:  "Something's not quite right, and we're looking into it. Thanks for your reports!"

According to a report published in The Verge, the music streaming giant did not provide details pertaining to the outage, but as per a case study posted by Google Cloud confirmed the company is also a customer and that may explain the sudden issues for both services. The Google Cloud status page mentions a glitchy update to the Traffic Director component that Discord cited, as well as a timeline matching both services’ wonky period before it was apparently rolled back to a working version. This time it wasn’t AWS or DNS -- it was just Google, The Verge report added.

"The issue with Traffic Director has been confirmed to be caused by a recent release; the release has been rolled back and customers can now start using Traffic Director. We have identified a probable root cause and will be publishing an Incident Report within the next several days," read the Google Cloud status.
