Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Leak: Might Lose A Sensor But Gain Smarter Camera Upgrades

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 could drop the 3x telephoto camera, according to GalaxyClub, sparking debate over whether software can compensate for the missing hardware.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series is known for innovation, but the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 may take a surprising turn by dropping a hardware component. A new report from GalaxyClub claims the device will not include the Dedicated 3x Telephoto Camera, which was present in the Fold4 and Fold5.

This move might appear like a downgrade on paper, but Samsung is reportedly adjusting its imaging strategy to compensate through software improvements. With the Fold 8 launch still some distance away, expectations are slowly taking shape, and the camera setup could be at the centre of the conversation.

3x Telephoto Lens Might Be Dropped

According to GalaxyClub, the Fold 8 may no longer include a dedicated 3x telephoto sensor. This marks a change from its recent predecessors, the Fold4 and Fold5, both of which featured this optical zoom component. If this turns out to be true, users may notice a difference in zoomed photography performance, though Samsung’s computational photography tools could help maintain image quality.

It’s worth noting that Samsung has not confirmed these specifications, and changes are still possible ahead of the official launch.

Possible Camera Realignment In The Fold Line

This potential shift could reflect Samsung’s broader approach to streamlining the Galaxy Z Fold camera experience. Reports suggest Samsung may aim for a single, versatile telephoto camera capable of handling different zoom ranges, rather than maintaining multiple zoom-specific lenses.

This could reduce internal space usage and simplify camera design while leaning more heavily on software to deliver similar results.

GalaxyClub's Report Stirs Speculation

The original report comes via GalaxyClub, which has been a regular source of early Samsung-related leaks. According to them, internal testing units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lack the 3x zoom sensor, pointing to a likely design change.

Samsung has not issued any official comment or confirmation regarding the Fold 8’s camera setup. The final specifications could still evolve before the product is unveiled, likely sometime in 2025. Best to consider this report with a pinch of salt.
