Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra May Reuse Old Telephoto Camera, Latest Leak Suggests

While the telephoto camera setup seems largely unchanged, Samsung may be planning something more ambitious with the primary shooter.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Leak: Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, may not be reinventing the wheel when it comes to its telephoto setup, at least not entirely. According to a fresh report by Dutch outlet GalaxyClub, the upcoming device will feature a 50MP periscope telephoto camera capable of 5x optical zoom. Interestingly, this is the same setup seen in the current Galaxy S25 Ultra.

If accurate, this suggests Samsung is opting for consistency over change with its high-zoom telephoto lens, possibly indicating confidence in the existing hardware’s performance or a strategic decision to prioritise other camera innovations.

Second Telephoto Camera Still Under Wraps

There’s still some mystery around the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s secondary telephoto lens. On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the second telephoto unit came with a 10MP sensor offering 3x optical zoom. However, rumours have surfaced that Samsung might go all in with a huge leap — a 200MP sensor for the second telephoto camera in the S26 Ultra.

That speculation, though, hasn’t been confirmed by GalaxyClub. For now, it remains a rumour in need of more substantial backing. Should it turn out to be true, it would mark a dramatic shift in Samsung’s approach to zoom versatility on its Ultra line.

Main Camera May See Big Changes

While the telephoto camera setup seems largely unchanged, Samsung may be planning something more ambitious with the primary shooter. Earlier reports hinted that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could come with a 200MP main sensor, potentially featuring a variable aperture. If realised, this would give users more control over depth of field and low-light performance, similar to what we’ve seen on some premium camera phones.

The Galaxy S26 series is expected to debut in January 2026, and as we inch closer to launch, more leaks and confirmations will likely surface to paint a fuller picture of Samsung’s flagship camera ambitions.

Until then, camera enthusiasts and Samsung fans will be watching closely to see whether these incremental upgrades translate to meaningful improvements or whether bigger surprises are still in store.
