Qualcomm To Launch Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Chipset In October, Expected To Be A Beast Incarnate For Gamers

According to the leaked AnTuTu benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 posts over 3 million points which makes it around 30 per cent more powerful than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Qualcomm has announced that its annual launch event, Snapdragon Summit will be held from October 21 to October 23, 2024, in Hawaii's Maui. Qualcomm will reveal Qualcomm Oryon, the incredible CPU behind the Snapdragon X Series, at the event. As per the official post by Qualcomm on X, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will enable the “next generation of mobile gaming” and will most probably turn out to be the most capable Android smartphone chip till date.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 To Bring Qualcomm Oryon CPU To Mobile

Qualcomm has revealed that its upcoming Snapdragon 8 series chip will feature the new Oryon CPU architecture. This architecture, which also powers the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors used in ARM-based Copilot+ Windows PCs, marks a significant shift for the company.

Previously, Qualcomm’s mobile CPUs were built around ARM Cortex designs. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, however, the company will employ its own custom CPU design, providing greater flexibility and the ability to fine-tune performance more precisely.

The Oryon CPU cores stem from Qualcomm’s acquisition of Nuvia, a chip design firm founded by former Apple and Google chip engineers.

The Beast Incarnate?

As per the early benchmark leaks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is going to be a powerhouse. According to the leaked AnTuTu benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 posts over 3 million points which makes it around 30 per cent more powerful than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The upcoming chipset is also expected to offer exceptional single-core and multi-core CPU performance with clock speeds up to 4.2 GHz. It is likely to be fabricated using TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process.

If leaks are to be believed then a tipster, @negativeonehero on X suggested that the GPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is as powerful as the one we see on the MediaTek Dimensity 9300. But then what's special about Snapdragon? It is rumoured to have been built at just half the budget of MediaTek Dimensity 9300.

In addition to these upgrades, it is anticipated that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will feature an advanced neural processing unit (NPU) designed to enhance on-device AI capabilities. The chip is also expected to incorporate the latest memory technologies, including LPDDR6, to improve power efficiency.

The Xiaomi 15 is anticipated to be the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, with subsequent models from brands like iQOO, OnePlus, and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series expected to follow. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is projected to offer improvements in both performance and power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Additionally, Qualcomm is set to unveil a new chip aimed at budget 5G smartphones during a launch event in India on July 30. This new chip is expected to lower the cost of entry-level 5G devices significantly. The event will also highlight the latest Snapdragon X series processors used in Copilot+ branded Windows PCs.
