New India Connecting, Empowering Citizens With Technology: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that technology was the basis of the 'One Nation One Ration Card' and it because of this many poor started getting rations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said people today don't consider the government as an obstruction but as a catalyst for development during a post-budget webinar based on the theme 'Unleashing the Potential: Ease of living using technology'.

“New India is connecting and empowering the citizens with technology. The budget of our government has emphasised on increasing the ease of living, with the help of technology. The government's policy interventions are now showing results,” said Modi.

The PM also emphasised that technology was the basis of the 'One Nation One Ration Card' and it because of this many poor started getting rations. “Many depts can use technology to meet global standards of service,” he added.

On the role of technology during the pandemic, Modi said, “The tech-enabled platform CoWIN played a key role during the Covid-19 pandemic. Today every citizen of India is clearly feeling this change that now it is so easy to communicate with the government.”

"When we say 'Time is money', reducing compliances is the key step in reducing the time taken and increasing the earning capabilities of businesses," the PM said.  

He added that the efforts are making the lives of the poor and unprivileged, better. “Today people don't consider Govt as an obstruction but as catalyst for development. In the budget, technology & human touch were given priority,” said Modi in his post-budget webinar address via video conferencing.

The webinar will be led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and co-led by Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). It will involve discussions on the budget announcements pertaining to the theme and the specifics catering to IT Ministry, DPIIT, Department of Justice, Department of Telecom, Department of Expenditure and Department of Commerce.

The stakeholders and experts from state governments, industry, start-ups, academia and civil societies will deliberate and carve out milestones and implementation plans pertaining to the key budget announcements.

The webinar will discuss the Budget announcements related to DigiLocker entity, national data governance, address update facility, fintech services, Centre of Excellence on AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Mission Karmayogi, E-Courts, 5G and ease of doing business. Discussions would also revolve around simplification of KYC, Common Business Identifier, Unified Filing Process, among others.
