Microsoft Global Outage: A significant technical issue with Microsoft's cloud services in the Central US region has led to widespread disruptions, impacting several airlines and resulting in numerous flight cancellations and delays, reported Reuters. The ripple effect of the cloud outage seems to have affected Indian airline carriers as well, with IndiGo and SpiceJet among the affected.

As per Downdetector's India-based results, the outage could already be on its way to resolution, as the number of reports was seen on the downward slope at the time of writing.

The Downdetector outage map shows hotspots across the country, with cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, and Nagpur among the most affected.

Affected Airlines In US, India

In the US, Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, and Sun Country Airlines reported operational disruptions due to the outage. Frontier Airlines cited a "major Microsoft technical outage" as the cause of their temporary issues.

Meanwhile, Sun Country Airlines noted that a third-party vendor's systems had disrupted their booking and check-in services without specifying Microsoft. Allegiant Air acknowledged that its website was down because of the Microsoft Azure problem.

As mentioned earlier, the ripple effect of this outage extended to India, where three airlines — IndiGo, Akasa, and SpiceJet — faced significant check-in system failures.

This disruption reportedly affected passengers at major airports, including those in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. The airlines, which use the GoNow check-in system, have been experiencing these technical issues since 10:45 am IST and are collaborating with Microsoft to resolve the problem swiftly.

Technical Details

As reported by Reuters, Microsoft identified that the outage began affecting a subset of its customers who use various Azure services in the Central US. Azure, a cloud computing platform, supports the building, deploying, and managing of applications and services globally.

BSOD Reported

Additionally, some media reports indicated that millions of Windows users worldwide encountered the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error, causing unexpected shutdowns and restarts. This issue has been linked to a recent update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

It remains to be seen when full services are restored by the Redmond tech giant. Stay tuned to ABP Live for all the latest updates.
