What Are Genmojis? Apple Wants You To Create Your Own Emojis. Here's When You Can Start Doing That

Genmoji will roll out with the upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates, scheduled for release on September 16.

Apple's Genmoji, a new feature integrated into its latest software updates, as part of its advanced generative AI system, Apple Intelligence. This innovative capability allows iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to generate personalised emojis tailored to their preferences, offering a fresh level of customisation in digital communication.

What Is Genmoji?

Genmoji, which stands for "generative emoji," enables users to create unique emojis by simply describing them in text. For example, users can request an emoji by typing descriptions like "smiley relaxing with cucumbers" or "T-rex riding a skateboard in a tutu." The AI then generates multiple design options based on the description, allowing users to select their favourite version.

While iOS currently boasts a vast library of standard emojis, Genmoji aims to enhance this by providing more personalised and expressive options. The feature is part of Apple's broader Apple Intelligence framework and will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro models and newer, recent iPads, and Macs equipped with M1 chips or later versions.

When Will Genmojis Be Available?

Genmoji will roll out with the upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates, scheduled for release on September 16. To access the feature, users need compatible devices running the latest operating system versions.

Beyond standard emoji customisation, Genmoji also allows users to create emojis based on photos of friends and family from their photo library, further personalising the experience. These custom emojis can be used in various ways, including in Messages chats, as stickers, or as reactions, providing a new dimension of expression in everyday digital interactions.

The introduction of Genmoji marks another step forward in Apple's efforts to integrate AI-driven features into its products, enhancing user experiences through advanced personalisation and creativity tools.
