Eighty-four per cent of Indian parents prefer to purchase products from companies that have sustainable practices, amid the climate crisis that has led to a paradigm shift in the mindset of parents. It also has influenced their decision-making on purchasing behaviour, career choices, and long-term family planning, a new report has said. Also, more than 60 per cent of Indian parents have reconsidered the company they currently or previously worked for due to their commitment to the environment and social issues, says a global HP study.

The HP study was conducted after surveying 5,000 parents across five countries.

Rising temperature and cost emerge as primary concerns amid climate change and 98 per cent of Indian parents have expressed deep concern about climate change. Sixty-one per cent of Indian parents are considering the environmental practices of companies as a crucial factor in their career choices, recognising the importance of aligning their professional lives with their values.

Sixty-six per cent of mothers and over half of fathers (58 per cent) in the country have reconsidered the company they work for or changed companies due to commitment to sustainability initiatives. This trend reflects a potential growing awareness of the critical role that companies play in driving positive change.

Interestingly, Indian parents who were surveyed placed a higher priority on rising temperature and cost as climate change concerns, with mothers (19 per cent) expressing heightened worry over the impact of having children compared to fathers (8 per cent). This prevailing apprehension has significantly influenced the perspectives of both mothers (63 per cent) and fathers (56 per cent), as well as the younger generation.

Notably, 66 per cent of Generation Z and 60 per cent of Millennials feel that their concerns around climate change are making them rethink their plans for expanding their households.
