AI Facial Recognition Cameras, Anti-Drone Units: Red Fort Gears Up For PM Narendra Modi's Independence Day Address

A comprehensive participation of over 20,000 officials and civilians is anticipated for the Independence Day festivities.

In preparation for the upcoming 77th Independence Day celebration of India, a comprehensive security arrangement has been established at the historic Mughal-era Red Fort in New Delhi. Over 10,000 police personnel, along with an array of technological advancements including 1,000 facial recognition cameras and anti-drone systems, have been deployed to ensure a safe and secure environment for the event, as reported by PTI.

Dependra Pathak, the Special Commissioner of Police responsible for Law and Order, highlighted the thoroughness of the security measures. He emphasised that unlike the previous year which was marred by COVID-19 restrictions, this year's Independence Day celebration would be characterised by full-fledged enthusiasm. To this end, ample police deployment has been put in place to guarantee the smooth flow of proceedings.

Pathak articulated, "Our focus is not only on a robust police presence but also on integrating real-time information sharing with other pertinent agencies to bolster security measures. Employing cutting-edge technology systems forms a key component of our strategy. Preparations are in full swing, with rehearsals underway."

A comprehensive participation of over 20,000 officials and civilians is anticipated for the Independence Day festivities. The government has extended invitations to approximately 1,800 special guests, inclusive of beneficiaries of the PM-KISAN scheme from various corners of the nation, who will attend the ceremony.

The security enhancements extend to the integration of advanced surveillance capabilities. Around 1,000 cameras equipped with facial recognition and video analytics have been strategically placed within and around the Red Fort premises, as well as at key points across the vicinity. This tactical placement facilitates thorough security coverage and the monitoring of the movements of high-profile individuals.

Furthermore, the security protocol encompasses an array of anti-terrorism measures, encompassing the installation of air defence guns. Elite SWAT commandos, sharpshooters, and snipers will be positioned at strategic vantage points to ensure the safety of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other distinguished guests. The report from PTI underlines that a total of 153 kite catchers have been deployed at strategic locations, armed with the necessary equipment to intercept kites. Notably, residents residing in the vicinity of the Red Fort have been requested to refrain from flying kites until the event concludes.

The focal point of the Independence Day celebrations will centre around Prime Minister Modi, who is scheduled to address the nation from the historic Red Fort. His agenda includes an inspection of the Guard of Honour as well as the ceremonial unfurling of the National Flag.
