Google Enhances Sharing Experience, Introduces New 'Share' Button For Search Results

Tapping on this button will bring up the familiar Android system share sheet, allowing you to choose options such as copying the link, sharing it with others, or sending it to an app.

The Google app on Android is introducing a fresh 'Share' button, allowing users to swiftly share links from search results without needing to open them first. This functionality eliminates the need for users to open the link and copy the URL to share it with others. Initially noticed by Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii on X (formerly Twitter), the new 'Share' button is positioned above the 'About this result' section.

Users can access it by tapping the three-dot button located to the right of the search result.

Tapping on this button will bring up the familiar Android system share sheet, allowing you to choose options such as copying the link, sharing it with others, or sending it to an app. In the past, users had to tap on the link and wait for the page to load before being able to copy the link. Unlike web browsers, the Google app does not support long-tapping on a link to obtain its URL.

However, please note that the share button may not be visible for certain search results. For instance, there is no option to copy a link that redirects users to apps on the Google Play Store.

While desktop users can simply right-click on a link to copy and share it, clicking on the three-dot button next to the search result will open a small panel providing additional information about the website. Similar to the mobile experience, this panel allows users to share the link, save it, or provide feedback to Google regarding the search result.

Last year, the Google app for Android introduced new features like Notes, enabling users to leave and read notes on search results. Additionally, the tech giant unveiled the Search with Generative AI (SGE) feature, which, as the name suggests, provides AI-generated summaries of search results.
