Google Develops New Ranking System To Reduce Visibility Of Deepfakes

In a blog post, Google announced that this update aims to filter out deepfakes and AI-generated material from the web.

Recently the issue of deepfakes has been on the rise with several high-profile celebrities and politicians. Google is now trying to combat this issue as it has announced stricter actions against deepfakes (AI-generated videos and photos). The tech giant has developed a new ranking system in order to combat deepfake content in its search engine. According to reports, this ranking system will lower the ranking of fake photos or videos which would be created by the use of AI on the internet. This will make such content less visible in he results of Google Search.

The company has made it easier to remove deepfakes and AI-generated content, ensuring these fake videos and photos do not prominently appear on the internet. In a blog post, Google announced that this update aims to filter out deepfakes and AI-generated material from the web.

Additionally, explicit content will be filtered out and removed from Google search results. Similar search results and duplicate content containing deepfakes will also be eliminated, meaning this content will no longer show up in Google search rankings.

Google Revises Content Removal Policy To Address Non-Consensual Morphed Images

Google has updated its content removal policy to include the removal of non-consensual fake pornographic images. The company has streamlined this process, enabling individuals to tackle this issue more effectively.

When individuals successfully request the removal of explicit non-consensual fake content about themselves, Google’s systems will filter out all explicit results related to similar searches involving them. Additionally, if an image is removed from search under this policy, Google’s system will scan and remove any duplicates of that image.

These changes to Google's search ranking system will help reduce the circulation of AI-generated fake photos and videos on the internet, benefiting everyday users.
