Desi Social Media App 'Elyments' Launched, Will It Replace Facebook & WhatsApp? Know The Features Here
The 'Elyments' app launched by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is available on the Google Play Store, where it has been downloaded over one lakh times.
New Delhi: After the ban of 59 Chinese apps due to network security threats and PM Modi's consistent appeal of 'Vocal For Local' the government of India has backed the launch of India’s indigenous super app 'Elyments’ for social media activities.

The app 'Elyments’ was launched earlier today by the Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu. The app has been built by over a thousand IT professionals who are also volunteers of Art Of Living, helmed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
During the virtual launch, Naidu said the call for Atma Nirbhar Bharat will help the country capitalise on its inherent strengths. The campaign was aimed at giving a new boost to the economic potential of the country by strengthening infrastructure, using modern technologies, enriching human resources, and creating robust supply chains. In the social media world, the app is looking forward to replacing Facebook, Whatsapp, and InstagramI am happy to note that more than one thousand IT professionals, who are also the volunteers of the Art of Living, have together created an indigenous app named Elyments. Features Of 'Elyments'
- Elyments, the homegrown super app, will be available in more than eight Indian languages and can be downloaded from all app stores and Google Play Stores across the world. The app has been downloaded over one lakh times.
- The app users can connect and converse with friends, share updates, build network and discover interstes with like-minded people.
- Similar to Facebook and Whatsapp, Elyments also provides the options of Voice calling and Video Conferencing.
- Elyments comes with a camera feature that has built-in filters and augmented reality (AR) characters.
- Users can also get news updates about a variety of topics from across the country.
- Coming to security, the developers of the Elyments app say that the app has been developed keeping in view the data safety and security of users’ data. It comes with features such as end-to-end encryption, which ensures that users’ data ‘remains safe from prying eyes’.
- The company says that all of its servers are hosted in India, which in turn enables the app to provide a fast experience.
- “People will be able to connect globally and shop locally” though this app, the developers of the app said.
In the wake of border tension with China, India on June 29 banned 59 apps with Chinese links, including popular ByteDance-owned Tiktok app, the social networking app Helo and Tencent’s messaging platform WeChat, over safety and privacy issues.
The government has turned its focus towards'Atmanirbhar Bharat' after PM Modi's appeal. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced, “Digital India Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Innovate Challenge” to identify best Indian apps in areas like office productivity, work from home, social networking, e-learning, entertainment, health and wellness, agritech, fintech, news, etc. The aim is to select the available Indian apps and upgrade them to world-class.
