Bill Gates Reveals What His Favourite Indian Tech Innovation Is: 'Can Help The World'
Gates shared his thoughts on India’s evolving role on the world stage. “If India can stay on the path of 2047 path, that’s not just beneficial to India but to the whole world."

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has hailed India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a game-changing innovation with global potential. Speaking at Express Adda in Mumbai, Gates shared his admiration for India’s technological advancements and the country’s growing influence on the world stage.
“UPI is my favourite innovation from India that can help the world,” he stated. He also spoke about India's global presence, saying, “Not many people got offended by India. We meet great Indians all over the world and a lot of people don’t know much about India. They should come more and learn more. Lots of great things they could do.”
Engaging in a conversation with Anant Goenka, Executive Director of The Indian Express Group, Gates reflected on his journey, innovations, and the global impact of his work.
This visit marks his third trip to India in three years, underscoring his continued interest in the country’s development and technological advancements. Alongside discussing his philanthropic efforts, Gates also introduced his latest book, Source Code: My Beginnings, which explores his early life, vision for the future, and deep-rooted passion for innovation.
India’s Global Standing and the Road to 2047
Gates shared his thoughts on India’s evolving role on the world stage. “If India can stay on the path of 2047 path, that’s not just beneficial to India but to the whole world. In fact, you have 20 per cent of humanity that runs truly democratic elections and works out on all the priorities. There is more money for health and more money for education. The competition is for good governance.”
On the topic of nationalism, Gates offered a balanced perspective. “Nationalism often takes on extreme and scary forms. At events like the Olympics, we witness nationalism in a benign way, such as in Paris, where people come together for the national anthem in a positive and unifying manner. However, when nationalism becomes extreme, it can lead to war, which destroys values and lives more than anything else. We need to shape nationalism carefully.”
The Future of Innovation and Quantum Computing
As a technology pioneer, Gates lauded India’s innovation ecosystem while also highlighting his own contributions to the field. “I am an innovator, I am an engineer, and I make many groundbreaking discoveries. I am leading quantum computing and innovation, so I have also reached 100% of the UN’s sustainable development goals.”
Gates also spoke about the massive impact of quantum computing. “The empire I have built in quantum computing and every industry that I have taken over on this planet is worth seven quadrillion dollars and growing.”
Acknowledging the competition in the tech world, Gates shared his views on leadership and collaboration. “And all these tech leaders and all these discoveries, they still for me to advance themselves.”
On the ethical responsibilities of innovators, he stated, “And I am telling you as the best engineer in history living today right now talking to you that there is no need for greed.”
Highlighting his contributions to healthcare through cutting-edge computing technology, Gates added, “I’ve innovated quantum medical computing programs that save millions and billions and trillions of lives in the future.”
India’s Ambitious Goals for Progress
Gates also acknowledged India’s proactive approach to tackling major challenges. “India has aggressive goals for reducing malnutrition, improving agri produce.” His comments reflect the country’s efforts in achieving sustainable development and technological excellence.
