The initial developer beta of iOS 18.2, rolled out on Wednesday, brings several exciting new features. Users can now create custom emojis using Genmoji and generate images through Image Playground. The update also boosts AI-driven writing tools, adds integration with ChatGPT, and introduces Visual Intelligence for camera-based searches on iPhone 16 models. Additionally, these AI-powered tools are being made available in more regions. Let's explore the new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.2.
iOS 18.2 Beta: Apple Intelligence & Other Features That It Brings
- Siri X ChatGPT: Siri now has the option to forward requests to ChatGPT, which is entirely optional and doesn’t require an account. You can set Siri to automatically send requests to ChatGPT without needing approval each time, allowing it to deliver more in-depth information, as well as generate text and images. Additionally, it supports on-screen responses, so you can inquire about images you're currently viewing.
- Visual Intelligence: This feature identifies objects and locations and by long pressing the camera control button then pointing your phone can let you gain access to details like hours and reviews for restaurants, search items on Google, etc
- Languages: iOS 18.2 extends Apple Intelligence support to English-speaking users in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. This update means Canadians no longer have to switch their iPhones to US English to access the feature.
- Writing Tools: This feature has expanded beyond three styles, which allows users to specify their tone or the content that they want.
- Image Playground: It allows users to create stylised images that will be based on prompts and photos of friends with integration in Messages.
- Genmoji: Genmoji allows users to design their own custom emojis. Although iOS 18.1 users can view and learn about Genmoji, the ability to create them is exclusive to iOS 18.2. In earlier versions, these custom emojis will only appear as static images.
- Image Wand: This feature allows you to insert images into notes within the Notes app. On iPad, you can use the Apple Pencil to create rough sketches, and Image Wand will refine them into polished images.
