2 Captains Among 4 Armymen Killed In Shootout With Terrorists In J&K's Rajouri

The exchange of fire broke out between terrorists and joint forces of the Army and J-K Police in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal.

New Delhi: Four army personnel were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Wednesday, officials said. According to ANI, two Army Captains were among four soldiers killed in the operation.

The exchange of fire broke out between terrorists and a joint team comprising personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Army and Police in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal, reported PTI.

"A team of security forces was on a search operation in Baji Maal forest area of Rajouri when contact was established with terrorists and a firefight erupted," officials said, reported ANI.

According to ANI, two terrorists are trapped in the exchange of fire.

In a post on platform X, the Jammu-based White Knight Corps said, "The terrorists have been injured and surrounded and operations are in progress, amidst acts of valour and sacrifice by own bravehearts in trying to prevent collateral damage to women and children in the highest traditions of Indian Army."

"White Knight Corps salutes the supreme sacrifice," it added.

Speaking on the Rajouri encounter, defence expert Anil Gaur said, "Following the abrogation of Article 370, Pakistan is trying to revive militancy via terrorists such as Masood Azhar. However, people of Jammu and Kashmir are now standing up against terrorists and are giving details about their hideouts to officials. In Rajouri, there are some people who are still working as their (referring to terrorist organisations) underground workers. It must be noted that the area near Rajouri is very conducive for infiltration."

Earlier on Friday, a terrorist was killed in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in the Budhal area of Rajouri district, police said, reported news agency IANS.

Police said, based on specific information, a joint operation was launched by Rajouri police, the army, and the CRPF in the general area of Behrote Top. As the security personnel were moving towards the target house, the terrorist started firing on them from inside," police said.

"The exchange of fire continued for some time, and during the ensuing operation, one terrorist was killed. An amount of arms and ammunition has also been recovered from the site," police said, as quoted by IANS.

There have been a series of encounters between the terrorists and security forces across Jammu & Kashmir in the recent past in which many terrorists have been eliminated.
