Nuh Violence: Haryana Congress MLA Mamman Khan Arrested, Sent To Two-Day Police Remand

Haryana Congress MLA Mamman Khan has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the Nuh violence, days after he skipped summons for questioning in the matter twice.

Nuh Violence: Haryana Congress MLA Mamman Khan, who was arrested in connection with the Nuh violence that rocked the state in July this year, has been sent to two-day police remand. According to ANI, ADGP Mamta Singh confirmed the arrest of Khan. He was produced before Nuh District Court earlier in the day. Khan had missed police summons for questioning into the matter twice.

MLA from Ferozepur Jhirka, Khan was named an accused in an FIR lodged after the communal clashes. He was arrested late last night, the Haryana Police said, reported PTI.

Nuh SP said that police will try to get the Congress leader's remand for further probe as "facts reveal he was present at the site of clashes".

"There are charges of inciting violence against him. He will be produced before the court by police to obtain his remand. So far, investigation reveals his involvement. Facts reveal that he was present at the site just before violence broke," he said.

Meanwhile, referring to Khan's arrest, Haryana Cabinet Minister Devender Singh Babli said actions will be taken against those "found guilty of damaging the brotherhood in the state".

"The investigation is going on in the Nuh violence. Any person who is found guilty of damaging the brotherhood in the state, legal actions would be taken against him/her...MLA too is a common citizen. Nobody is above the law and the Constitution of the country..." he added.

This comes days after police arrested Nuh violence accused and Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar while he was out shopping in a market. Monu Manesar is also an accused in the lynching case involving two Muslim men, Junaid and Nasir, in Rajasthan.

Self-styled cow vigilante Monu Manesar, who was accused of inciting communal violence recently in Nuh, was sent to 14 days judicial custody till September 24. On Thursday, a Rajasthan court sent him to judicial custody for 15 days in connection with the killing of Junaid and Nasir.

The bodies of the two Muslim men were found charred inside a car in Haryana's Bhiwani district in February, officials said, as per PTI. A police official told the agency that Manesar revealed that he was in touch with arrested accused Rinku Saini and the duo had spoken on the phone before and after the kidnapping of Nasir and Junaid.

He said Monu Manesar was involved in the crime, but whether he was the mastermind or not is still being probed, the agency reported. According to the police, four accused -- Monu Rana, Rinku Saini, Gogi and Monu Manesar -- have been arrested in the case.
