Maharashtra: 6 Killed, 3 Injured As Blast Rocks Explosives Factory In Nagpur

Maharashtra: At least six workers, including five women were killed and three others were injured on Thursday after an explosion rocked an explosives manufacturing factory located in Dhamna in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The bodies of the victims have been sent to a hospital in Nagpur for postmortem.

The Commissioner of Police, Nagpur, informed about the incident to news agency ANI and added that "the explosive department team is about to reach the spot." NCP-Sharad Chandra Pawar leader Anil Deshmukh was also spotted at the place of incident.
According to a report by news agency PTI, the incident took place at Chamundi Explosive Pvt Ltd at Dhamna village that comes under Hingna police station limits.
"The explosion took place around 1 pm when the workers were packing explosives," a local police official told PTI, adding that further details were awaited.
"At least five persons were killed....the whole factory has been gutted," PTI quoted Nagpur police commissioner Ravindra Singhal as saying.
Owner & Manager Of Explosives Factory Absconding
The NCP-SCP leader stated that the manager of the explosives factory and the owner of the unit are absconding.
"This incident of the explosion took place in an explosive unit near the village Dhamna. The incident took place in the afternoon. The manager and owner of the unit are absconding. The injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment...A team from the explosive department is here and further investigation is underway," Deshmukh told ANI.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Expresses Condolences
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed condolences over the Nagpur factory explosion.
“It is unfortunate that six people died in Nagpur. I am very sad and I express my condolences,” the Nagpur MP said.

Gadkari also appealed the local party workers to cancel a program, which they had organised to welcome him to Nagpur after he took an oath again as Union road transport minister after the Lok Sabha elections.
