Madhya Pradesh: Extremely Heavy Rainfall To Lash State, IMD Issues Red Alert For August 3

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red alert’ predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. According to the weather forecast, the state is likely to receive heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall on August 3. East Madhya Pradesh is likely to get extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday as well, IMD said.
While sounding the red alert, the weather office also stated localised flooding is expected due to heavy rainfall at various places in Madhya Pradesh. The IMD urged people to avoid areas prone to water logging and also asked them to stay away from vulnerable structures.

Meanwhile, a red alert warning has also been issued for Odisha. As per the India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall is likely on August 2.
Taking to Twitter, IMD said, "Prepare for Intense Rainfall! On 2nd August, Odisha is expected to receive Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall, with the possibility of Extremely Heavy downpour exceeding 204.4 mm. Stay safe!"
Heavy rain triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal inundated several low-lying areas in Odisha, prompting the authorities to announce temporary closure of educational institutions in more than 12 districts, news agency PTI reported.
According to the report, Odisha received an average rainfall of 83.8 mm over the last 24 hours with the highest at 390.6 mm recorded in Boudh block. At least four blocks recorded downpour of more than 300 mm, 17 experienced over 200 mm and 68 recorded between 100 and 200 mm of rain.
A goods train also derailed between Handapa and Bainda in Angul district after a boulder fell on the engine earlier in the day, PTI reported.
