Kerala Man Who Worked As A Police Officer In Bahrain Arrested For Smuggling Drugs To Gulf Nation

Chennai: The Narcotics Control Bureau on Monday arrested three people from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka and thwarted attempts to traffic drugs to Bahrain and Australia. The NCB said they have stopped three attempts in the past few weeks.
According to a PTI report, the intelligence officers seized 3.5 kg of hashish oil from a courier consignment in Ernakulam addressed to a place in Bahrain. Following this, the officials questioned the sender of the post from Bengaluru and the person from Kasaragod who finally sent it across to Bahrain on October 4.
The questioning revealed that the Kerala man was earlier a police officer who worked in Bahrain state police and had been smuggling hashish after learning about the loopholes in the system, said a report in Times of India. The 52-year-old man followed a modus operandi of procuring the drugs from Manali and transporting it to Kochi through Bengaluru. The man was also arrested while he was returning from Manali.

The NCB Bengaluru told TOI that the suspect was running a syndicate for three years to send drugs to Bahrain.
The NCB also seized 11.6 kg of pseudoephedrine from a consignment in Ernakulam destined to Australia last month. Similarly, they also seized 8 kg of pseudoephedrine from an air cargo parcel at Chennai International Airport and arrested the suspect in Chennai. The NCB reported the instances of smuggling to Australian authorities following which they seized 4 kg of drugs in Australia.
In November 2020, an Indian man was held in Cochin International Airport for attempting to smuggle drugs to Bahrain by concealing the drug in a dense halva. However, the accused said that he was innocent and the sweet box was given by the relative of a Bahrain resident.
