Rahul Gandhi Fined Rs 200 By UP Court For THIS Offence

Rahul Gandhi has been summoned to court on April 14. He was accused of calling Savarkar a British servant and pensioner.

A court in Lucknow has imposed a fine of ₹200 on Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. This action was taken by the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate as Gandhi did not appear in court during the hearing in the case arising due to his "objectionable" statement on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate also warned that Rahul Gandhi must appear in court on April 14. If Congress MP Rahul Gandhi does not appear in court on April 14, legal action may be initiated against him.

What Did Rahul Gandhi Say?

Rahul Gandhi had made a controversial statement about Veer Savarkar at a press conference in Akola. He had allegedly called Vinayak Savarkar a British servant and a pensioner. The petitioner, Nripendra Pandey, moved the Allahabad High Court against this statement of Rahul Gandhi.

Lawyer Pranshu Agarwal appeared in court on behalf of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He filed an application for exemption from appearance in court. The hearing took place in the ACJM court in Lucknow.

Nripendra Pandey, a lawyer, told the court that Rahul Gandhi had not appeared despite repeated summons. The court should take strict action against him.

Defending Rahul Gandhi, Pranshu Agarwal said that he is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and had an "important meeting in Delhi". "Apart from this, he had to go to several events, due to which he could not appear in the court," Agarwal said. Agarwal further said that Rahul Gandhi respects the court and that his failure to appear before the Bench was not deliberate.
