Karnataka DGP Distances Himself From Stepdaughter Ranya Rao’s Arrest: ‘She Hasn’t Visited Us Since Marriage’

However, the DGP is maintaining his distance from the case.
What DGP said
DGP Rao spoke to Times of India about his daughter's activities and said that he had no connection to his daughter's activities: "She got married four months ago and hasn't visited us since. We are unaware of her or her husband's business dealings. This has come as a huge shock and disappointment. The law will take its course."
How did it all begin?
Investigators detained 32-year-old actress Ranya Rao after she arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai on Monday night. Acting on a tip-off, a team of four DRI officers intercepted her at the airport. Reports indicate that Rao had traveled to Dubai four times in the past 15 days, raising suspicions.
The actress is accused of concealing gold bars in her belt and clothing, allegedly using her father’s influential position to avoid detection. Officials claim that she would call police officers upon her arrival, who would then escort her home.
Authorities are now investigating whether any police officers or IPS personnel associated with her were involved in the smuggling operation or if she was working independently. They are also looking into whether she had been involved in gold trafficking in previous instances.
Following her arrest, Rao was taken to the DRI headquarters in Bengaluru for questioning before being presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
Ranya Rao, known for her role alongside Kannada actor Sudeep in Maanikya, has appeared in several South Indian films. Her father, DGP Ramachandra Rao (Director General of Police, Police Housing Corporation), has denied any involvement, stating he has not been in touch with her since her marriage four months ago.
