Heatwave Likely In Several Bengal Districts Till June 7: IMD

"Meteorological conditions suggest that heat wave condition and hot & discomfort weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of West Bengal during 01st-07st June," IMD said.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a heat wave warning for several districts of West Bengal, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh over the next seven days.

According to the weather body, a warning has been issued till June 7.

"Meteorological conditions suggest that heat wave condition and hot & discomfort weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of West Bengal during 01st-07st June," IMD said in its latest weather bulletin.

It added, "Mainly dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of West Bengal during 01-07th June, 2023. Day temperature (maximum temperature) is very likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Celcius during 01-07th June, 2023."

People are likely to experience a humid climate in districts like West Burdwan, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Purulia, Malda, and North and South Dinajpur.

From June 2 to 7, heat wave conditions will also prevail over Bankura, Birbhum, Jhargram, Murshidabad, and Nadia, apart from the districts mentioned above.

In the wake of the high rise in temperature in many regions of West Bengal, IMD has issued a yellow alert for the state for the next five days.

Such heatwave conditions can lead to heat cramps, rashes, and other discomfort in severely ill people.

"Heat is tolerable for general public but moderate health concern for vulnerable people e.g. infants, elderly, people with chronic diseases, people exposed to sun for prolonged period or doing heavy work," it said.

Therefore, residents of the region are advised to avoid prolonged heat exposure, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothes, drink sufficient water to avoid dehydration, and schedule strenuous jobs for cooler times of the day.
