IPS Officer Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor Is New Haryana DGP
New Haryana DGP: Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor succeeds PK Agarwal as Haryana DGP.
Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor has been appointed as the Director General of Police, Haryana, succeeding PK Agarwal. Kapoor is a 1990 batch IPS officer. PK Aggarwal retired on August 15. Kapoor, who assumed charge as the DGP at the police headquarters in Panchkula, had served as the Director General of the state's anti corruption bureau.
"On the consideration of the panel received from Union Public Service Commission, the Governor of Haryana is pleased to appoint Sh. Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, IPS as Director General of Police, Haryana for a minimum tenure of at least two years from the date of his assumption of charge," the Haryana government order said.
Kapoor was picked by the Haryana government after he was shortlisted among three Haryana cadre IPS officers. The other contenders were IPS officers RC Mishra, Mohd Akil (both 1989-batch officers) and Shatrujeet Kapur (1990 batch).
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was keen on picking Kapoor, sources told PTI.
The Khattar-led Haryana government had listed nine IPS officers and sent a proposal with their names to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) last month.
The development comes weeks after Haryana's Nuh district witnessed communal clashes when a religious procession of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) was attacked by mobs. The violence spilled over to adjoining areas, including Gurugram. Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the violence.
On Sunday, mobile internet service were restored in Nuh district two weeks after it was suspended following the communal clashes.
Nuh is limping back to normalcy and markets have been opened. Schools have also started functioning as usual.
However, hundreds of police personnel, including Rapid Action Forces, have been stationed at sensitive areas of the district.
Last week, a 'mahapanchayat' organised by Hindu groups at Pondri village in Palwal district decided to resume on August 28 the VHP's 'Braj Mandal Yatra' in Nuh that was disrupted due to the violence.
