Former MP Meena Singh Resigns From JD(U), Says Upset Over Nitish Declaring Tejashwi As His Successor
Meena Singh said she did not want to leave JD(U) but she was upset with CM Nitish Kumar announcing his deputy Tejashwi Yadav as his successor.
New Delhi: In a major setback for Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, former JD(U) MP Meena Singh resigned from the party on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at Maurya Hotel in Patna, Singh said she did not want to leave JD(U) but she was upset with CM Nitish Kumar announcing his deputy Tejashwi Yadav as his successor.
Meena Singh said that even in 2014, she stayed with CM Nitish Kumar while many people left him, and even in 2015, when a grand alliance was formed in Bihar, the general public was not worried because the party leadership was strong. However, today's situation is different and frightening, Singh said.
Launching an attack on the alliance government in Bihar, Meena Singh said ever since this government was formed, the rate of crime has increased in the state. Police are being stopped from taking action against the criminals, who are going scot-free. She further said it looks like ‘Jungle Raj’ is back in Bihar and Nitish Kumar is not even worried.
The former JD(U) MP said that despite the current scenario, the saddest moment was when Nitish Kumar declared deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav as his successor and this is when she got upset.
Talking about her next course of action, Meena Singh said she will decide on it after discussing with other supporters and decision will be taken keeping in mind the interests of the people of Bihar.
It is to be noted that apart from Meena Singh, several other leaders also resigned from the primary membership of JD(U) on Friday.
Notably, Meena Singh became a Member of Parliament in 2009 by winning the election from Arrah Lok Sabha seat on a JD(U) ticket. She was defeated by Rajkumar Singh who became the MP from that seat in the 2014 elections. Meena Singh's husband late Ajit Singh was also an MP from Bikramganj Lok Sabha constituency.
