Officials said that the encounter broke after intelligence inputs about the presence of some terrorists in the upper reaches of Doda's Goli-Gadi forest, according to NDTV.

The gunfight started when security forces launched a search and cordon operation in Ghadi Bhagwah forest following information about the presence of terrorists in the area, officials said. Heavy firing was going on between the two sides when last reports were received, the officials said.

A meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Indian Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane to review the ongoing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and along the Indo-Myanmar border, defence sources said.

A holistic discussion was held to arrive at future security strategies, they said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has launched a massive search operation to track down the terrorists behind the deadly attack on an Army patrol party in Kathua.
