Anish Khan Death Case: Students Clash With Police During Protests In Kolkata, Several Detained
Anish Khan Death: The incident has led to widespread protests and opposition parties have demanded an investigation by an independent agency.
New Delhi: Protests over the alleged murder of student leader Anish Khan led to clashes between police personnel and students of Aliah University in College Street area of Kolkata on Tuesday.
The clashes took place when the students and activists tried to break a barricade and march towards Writers Buildings, the erstwhile state secretariat, PTI reported.

Before the students started the protest march, they made a human chain at the Park Circus seven-point crossing. Then they started their march towards Writers Buildings in Dalhousie area.
However, they later changed the route and took College Street, which houses the prestigious Calcutta University and Presidency University. However, the police had put up barricades there to stop the students, PTI reported.
As the students tried to break the barricades, police used force and mild lathicharge to disperse them. Some of the activists were also detained.

The father of Anish Khan has alleged that four people had come to their house on the night of February 18 donning police and civic volunteer uniforms and pushed his son off the third floor of their house at Amta in Howrah district.
Khan, who was earlier with SFI, the student wing of the CPI(M), was a prominent face of the protests in Kolkata against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He later joined the Indian Secular Front (ISF).

The state government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter. State DGP Manoj Malaviya announced the formation of the SIT headed by Additional Director General of Police, CID, Gyanwant Singh.
The Calcutta High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged murder and directed the state to make submissions on the matter on February 24.
