New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a day-long visit to West Bengal, laid the foundation stone for the 2nd Kargo Gate of the Land Port Authority of India and inaugurated various projects of the Border Security Force (BSF) at the ICP Petrapole in North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday.

Addressing the event, Amit Shah said, "Our border security policy is clear. We want strong infrastructure in the border areas. In the morning, Shah participated in the birth anniversary celebrations of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He visited the ancestral house of the bard at Jorasakho Thakurbari in north Kolkata and offered floral tributes.

"Amit Shah ji paid floral tributes to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. He garlanded the statue and visited the room where Tagore stayed. The home minister also spoke to officials there, who informed him about the historical importance of the place," PTI quoted a state BJP leader as saying.

Taking to Twitter, Amit Shah wrote, "Every word Gurudev Rabindranath Thakur wrote liberated India's spirit to dream of independence amidst the chaos and pain of slavery, as his enchanting wisdom guides our soul even today. Paid my humble tribute to Gurudev on his birth anniversary at Jorasanko Thakurbari, Kolkata."
