Maxwell, Cummins recalled; Catwright new face in Aussie squad for NZ ODIs

Maxwell, Cummins recalled; Catwright new face in Aussie squad for NZ ODIs ADELAIDE: Paceman Pat Cummins is set to return after a year and a half long layoff along with all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Zimbabwe-born allrounder Hilton Cartwright has been called into Australia's squad for three limited-overs internationals against New Zealand next month. The 24-year-old Cartwright, who has played 14 Sheffield Shield and 27 domestic one-day games since making his debut for Western Australia in 2012, was a surprise inclusion in the squad announced Wednesday, days after selectors announced a complete overhaul of the test squad. "Hilton bowls useful aggressive medium-pace and is a very good striker of the ball," interim chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said. "He is an exciting young prospect for Australian cricket and we have been watching him at the pathway level for some time." Australia will play New Zealand in ODIs in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne on Dec. 4, 6, 9 in between test series against South Africa and Pakistan. Cummins returns from stress fractures in his back which wiped out his 2015-16 season, and will add some pace to the Australian attack. "It is fantastic to see Pat back in Australian colors again," Hohns said. "It has been a frustrating period for him but we are certainly excited to have him fit and firing ahead of this series." Skipper Steve Smith, vice-captain Dave Warner, fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade are all playing in the third test against South Africa and were all included in the 14-man ODI squad.
