'Saat Saal Jitna Karna Tha...': Ravi Shastri's Straightforward Response On His Future As Coach

Ravi Shastri coached India for seven years and achieved what no one had been able to do before him.

New Delhi: Former India coach Ravi Shastri, who is now actively working as a cricket commentator, has made it clear that he is not interested in working as team India's coach for a second time. Shastri believes that he has done what he had to do with the national team as a coach for seven years. Now, he wants to enjoy the game as a spectator. Shastri's tenure ended last year after India's exit from the T20 World Cup.

Ravi Shastri during his playing days made many records as a batsman. He also did wonders in bowling and was a brilliant fielder too. After retiring from cricket, he started commentary and garnered loads and love and praise.

Shastri coached India for seven years and achieved what no one had been able to do before him. As a coach, he won the Test series twice in Australia. Before him, no Indian coach had won a series in Australia even once.

Apart from this, Shastri helped in building up a lethal fast bowling attack. On the strength of the same bowlers, Team India still manages to win the Test series abroad. However, Ravi Shastri could not win any ICC trophy.

“Mera coaching ka hisaab khatham ho gaya (My time with coaching has come to an end). Saat saal jitna karna tha, mein kar liya (For seven years, I have done enough). If I’m doing some coaching, it will be at the grassroots level, for which I have a company that is doing it. I will participate in that. Otherwise, my time as a coach has come to an end. Now I will view the game from far away and enjoy it,” Shastri told Sports Today.

Earlier this year, Shastri returned to the commentary box during IPL 2022. Currently, he is working with the Legends League Cricket 2022 as a commissioner.
