Kerber beats Williams to win Wimbledon

London [England], July 14 (ANI): Angelique Kerber lifted her maiden Wimbledon title after outclassing 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the final at the Centre Court in London on Saturday.

Kerber won two sets against Williams 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the victory in 67 minutes.

Kerber is the first German since Stefanie Graf in 1996 to lift the Wimbledon title.

Meanwhile, Novak Djovokic defeated Rafael Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 10-8 in the mens' semi-final bout to reach the Wimbledon final.

The match between Djovokic and Nadal was the second longest semi-final in Wimbledon history, constituting of 5 hours 15 minutes.

Djovokic will face South Africa's Kevin Anderson, who earlier defeated John Isner, in a match that is the longest semifinal in Wimbledon history. (ANI)
