Suryakumar Yadav Poised To Make Cricket Return In MI vs DC IPL 2024 Clash - Report

Suryakumar Yadav is likely to feature in Mumbai Indians' upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium on April 7 (Sunday).

Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter, Suryakumar Yadav, is anticipated to join the team's camp in  the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 within the next two days and is likely to participate in the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7(Sunday) as per a report by The Indian Express.

On Wednesday, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru provided clearance for the middle-order batter, who had been absent from cricket for over three months. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the physiotherapists at the NCA conducted comprehensive assessments before granting Yadav approval, ensuring no risks were taken, according to the report.

“He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness Test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” a BCCI source said as per The Indian Express report.

Long Absence From Cricket For Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav sustained a grade II tear in his ankle during the T20I series in South Africa, initially sidelining him for seven weeks. However, another injury emerged afterward, necessitating a hernia operation that has kept him out of action until now.

Suryakumar underwent sports hernia surgery in Munich, Germany, on January 17. This procedure prolonged his absence from cricketing action. His return is a significant advantage for MI, especially considering their winless streak in the competition under Hardik Pandya's captaincy thus far.

Mumbai Indians’ Wretched IPL 2024 Run

In IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians have played three matches, all resulting in losses. Since assuming the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has encountered a lack of support from MI fans,to make things worse for him. MI are the only team that are yet to register a win in the tournament and are languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table.
