Rohit Sharma Gets First Pass To His Own Stand At Wankhede

The pass was issued for the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals on May 21.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has honoured star opener Rohit Sharma by presenting him with the very first ticket to the Wankhede Stadium stand named after him. The special ticket, bearing serial number 162279, was issued for the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, scheduled for May 21 at 7:30 PM.

Rohit Sharma received the prestigious tribute from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on May 16 as they named a stand after him at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

The "Rohit Sharma Stand" was officially unveiled in presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Rohit's parents and his wife Ritika Sajdeh.

The ceremony was filled with emotion, as Rohit's parents were seen teary-eyed, overwhelmed by their son's monumental achievement.

Fitting Tribute to a Mumbai Cricket Legend

Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful cricketers to emerge from Mumbai, has played a pivotal role in Indian cricket. Known for his elegant strokeplay and tactical brilliance as captain, Rohit has led India to major titles, including the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.

The MCA's gesture to name a stand after him at Wankhede - where many of his iconic innings have unfolded - is seen as a fitting recognition of his contributions to Indian cricket.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, an emotional Rohit said:

"First of all, I want to thank everyone who came here and made this day so special. What’s happening today is something I never imagined, not even in my dreams. As a child, when you dream of playing for Mumbai or India, you don’t think of moments like this. Wankhede is a very prestigious stadium and holds countless memories for me."

After bidding farewell to Test and T20I cricket, Rohit Sharma is now expected to focus solely on One Day Internationals for India. The veteran opener is likely to continue representing the country in the 50-over format with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup, which could mark the final chapter of his international career.
