PSL Prize Money Dwarfed By IPL: Four Times Less

The 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) started from Friday, April 11, onwards. In the first match, Islamabad United defeated Lahore Qalandars by 8 wickets.

The final of the tournament, which will run for about one and a half months, will be held on May 18. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already announced its prize money. This is very less compared to Indian Premier League (IPL).

PSL 2025 begins

In PSL 10, a total of 6 teams will compete for the title. Which includes Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators. In match number-1, Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars will face each other. The matches will be organized at 4 venues. Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan will host the matches.

Prize money announced

The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the prize money for PSL 2025. However, this is much less than many high-level leagues in the world.

The winners of PSL 2025 will take home a prize of USD 500,000 (approximately PKR 145 million / 4,44,90,619 Indian Rupee), while the runners-up will receive USD 200,000 (around PKR 56 million / 1,71,82,583 Indian Rupee) for their efforts in the tournament.

KKR, the winner of the last season of the Indian Premier League to be held in India, got Rs 20 crore as prize money. This is 4 times more than PSL. Not only this, BCCI had fixed a prize money of Rs 6 crore for the winner of Women's Premier League 2025.

The final will be held on 18 May

The command of Lahore Qalandars will be in the hands of Shaheen Afridi. At the same time, Babar Azam will be seen leading Peshawar Zalmi. Multan Sultans will be led by Mohammad Rizwan. Former Australian cricketer David Warner has been appointed captain of Karachi Kings.

Earlier in the last season, Shan Masood was seen carrying out this responsibility. All-rounder Shadab Khan will be seen captaining Islamabad United. The reins of Quetta Gladiators will be in the hands of Pakistan's young player Saud Shakeel.
