Mitchell Starc Announces IPL Comeback For 2024 Season

Mitchell Starc's last appearance in IPL came in 2015.

Left-arm Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has announced that he will be back in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Australian cricketer has not made an apperance in the T20 league since 2015 but said that he will definitely feature in the subsequent edition of the T20 tournament ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States and the Caribbean.

"I’m definitely going back in (next) year," Starc said in the Willow Talk cricket podcast.

"Amongst other things, it’s a great lead up to the T20 World Cup," he said.

"So a good opportunity to see if anyone’s interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup."

"And it’s somewhat of a quiet winter next year … in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in," the 33-year-old said.

So far the left-arm seamer has only played for one franchise in the league- Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)- and several teams are expected to go after him once he puts his name in the auction pool. In 27 matches in the IPL, Starc has 34 wickets to his credit. Starc was ruled out of the 2016 season due to an injury. In the following season in 2017, Starc decided against putting his name in the auction while in 2018 he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before he had to pull out because of another injury.

It is pertinent to note thar Starc has prioritised playing Test cricket for Australia which is why he has made himself unavailable at the IPL auctions. The cricketer who has played 82 Test matches so far has already expressed his desire to play 100 Tests. It remais to be seen if he can achieve that distinction.
