Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 partial schedule released
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently released the schedule for first 21 matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The complete schedule for IPL 2024 was not released due to the upcoming general elections in India. The schedule for Indian Premier League (IPL) second phase will be announced soon after the dates for the Lok Sabha elections are declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
For the initial phase, the schedule spans from March 22 to April 7. During this period, 21 matches will be played in 17 days, including 4 double headers (two matches in a day).
For the ninth time since the begining of Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will pay the opening match of an IPL season. Notably, MS Dhoni-led CSK have appeared in 10 IPL Finals to date, winning the trophy record 5 times.
A total of 10 teams acquired 72 players for a total of Rs 230.45 crore in this year's IPL auction, among which 30 were foreigners. Australian pace duo Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins earned record-shattering bids. Kolkata secured Starc for Rs 24.75 crore, making him the most expensive foreign player in IPL history. Meanwhile, Hyderabad acquired Cummins for Rs 20.50 crore.
