IPL 2021: Sunil Gavaskar Feels This 20-Year-Old Batsman Might Soon Play For India In Any Of The Formats 

IPL 2021 news: Padikkal had scored an unbeaten 101 off 52 balls against Rajasthan on Thursday. Thanks to his innings, RCB achieved the target of 178 runs in just 16.3 overs.  In his century innings, Padikkal hit 11 fours and 6 sixes, scoring 80 runs from just boundaries.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar praised Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Devdutt Padikkal (unbeaten 101) against Rajasthan Royals (RR).  The veteran said that he would not be surprised if Padikkal is seen playing in any format for India in near future as he possesses both ability and skill.

Padikkal has been scoring a lot of runs in the first class and Ranji Trophy in the last few years.  Also, in the domestic ODI tournament, the Karnataka batsman has scored a lot of runs.

“Won’t be surprised if he plays for India in any of the formats because he has got the class and the ability to do that. He is a heavy scorer in first-class cricket and Ranji Trophy as well gets big hundreds. In 50-over cricket, he gets lots of runs and hundreds. Here, in the T20 domestic tournaments, he got lots of runs. So, I won’t be surprised if he is there sooner rather than later,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Padikkal's heroic innings also impressed RCB captain Virat Kohli. After the match, Kohli praised Padikkal and said that he is a great player and will do well in the future.

Padikkal made his IPL debut last year and was the highest run-scorer for RCB.  He scored 473 runs off 15 matches at a strike rate of 124.  So far in IPL 2021, Padikkal has scored 137 runs in three matches at an average of 68.50.
