Pakistan Draw Respite After T20 World Cup 2024 Defeat With Victory Over India In Asian Squash Championship

After facing the T20 World Cup 2024 disappointment against India, Pakistan rebound with a triumph over India in the Asian Squash Championship.

The Indian men's team lost to Pakistan 1-2 in the quarterfinal of the Asian Team Squash Championships in Dalian, China, on June 14 (Friday). However, in a different sport, this win would offer some respite for Pakistan after their heartbreaking defeat to India in the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York on June 9. Pakistan have now advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Team Squash Championships and will face Hong Kong on Saturday.

Pakistan’s Asim Khan started the campaign with a 3-0 victory over Rahul Baitha of India. In the second match, Velavan Senthilkumar defeated Nasir Iqbal 3-0. Following this, Noor Zaman secured another victory over Suraj Kumar Chand, allowing Pakistan to progress in the tournament.

According to Geo Tv, Pakistan's coach Fahim Gul confirmed after the match that Iqbal's performance was affected by fever. Gul expressed satisfaction with the win against India and expressed optimism about the team's performance in future matches.

In the Asian Squash Championship, Pakistan remain unbeaten in Pool C, having competed against South Korea, Chinese Taipei and China. They defeated Taipei 3-0, Korea 2-1 and China 3-0.

Pakistan's Poor Run In T20 World Cup 2024

In the IND vs PAK match, India staged a remarkable comeback to defeat arch-rivals Pakistan by six runs. Sent in to bat first by Pakistan, India struggled and were dismissed for just 119 in 19 overs. While chasing the modest target, Pakistan seemed well and truly in control to win the match until the 15th over, when India's exceptional death bowling restricted them to 113. This marked their seventh victory in eight T20 World Cup encounters against Pakistan.

Prior to their loss to India, Pakistan suffered a surprising defeat to co-hosts USA in their opening game of the T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan rebounded with a win against Canada but now find themselves eliminated from contention for the Super 8 stage, as USA, with more points, secured the second spot from Group A alongside India.
