Ind vs SA: Rishabh Pant Breaks MS Dhoni's Record, Becomes Fastest Wicket-Keeper To 100 Dismissals In Test Cricket
Pant has become the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to complete 100 dismissals in Test cricket for India. The Delhi Capitals skipper has smashed former Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record.
New Delhi: The first Test of the three-Test series between India and South Africa is being played at the SuperSport Stadium in Centurion. Team India's young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant on Tuesday attained a big record in this match.
Pant has become the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to complete 100 dismissals in Test cricket for India. The Delhi Capitals skipper has smashed former Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record.
Pant attained this big Test feat by completing South African batsman Temba Bavuma's catch behind the stumps on Day 3 of Ind vs SA 1st Test. He achieved this feat in 50 innings of 26 Test matches.
Before him, Dhoni and Wriddhiman Saha had completed 100 dismissals in 36 Test matches. Kiran More, Nayan Mongia and Syed Kirmani are the other Indian wicket-keepers who have completed 100 dismissals in the longest format of the game.
The record for completing fastest 100 dismissals as wicket-keeper in world cricket is held by South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, who achieved this feat in 22 Test matches.
Pant is the sixth Indian wicketkeeper to have 100 or more wickets in Test cricket. Dhoni is at the top in the list of Indian wicket-keepers with maximum wickets i.e. 294. Pant had scored 1000 Test runs in 27 innings as a wicket-keepr batter, breaking MS Dhoni's record in January 2021.
Talking about the match, a magical spell from Mohammed Shami (5/44) helped team India bowl out South Africa for just 197 runs at Stumps on Day 3 of Ind vs SA 1st Test.
In reply, the hosts got an early breakthrough in form of Mayank Agarwal but India still were in a strong position with a 130-run lead with in-form KL Rahul and nightwatchman Shardul standing on the crease to start the proceedings on day 4.
