Halle Open: Federer looks for pre-Wimbledon triumph

Halle [Germany], June 24 (ANI): Before heading into the Wimbledon, 20-time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer will be looking to add another title to his kitty while facing Croatian Borna Coric in the final of the Halle Open here on Sunday.

The 36-year-old booked his 12th career final at the ATP Halle Open after he registered a convincing win over Ukrainian Denis Kudla 7-6 (7/1), 7-5 in the semi-final.

The top-seed will be aiming for his 99th career title in the Sunday clash.

The victory at the tournament will be a big positive point, ahead of Wimbledon, for the Swiss maestro who dropped out of clay season to stay fresh for the grass-court tournament.

Federer, who recently won his 98th title by defeating his Canadian opponent Milos Raonic in straight sets in the finals of Stuttgart Open, has been focusing more on the grass court tournaments in the build-up to the third major of the season, that is, Wimbledon.

The nine-time Halle Open champion, who recently climbed up to the top ranking for the sixth time in his career, will have to defend the Halle title if he wants to retain the top position. (ANI)
